Aim: More Modern, Safer Housing – The Sun Herald
"BILOXI - Keesler Air Force Base's plan to privatize military housing will allow officials to expand the safety zone of the north end of its runway and eliminate houses from a flood zone. Another round of base closings will be in 2005, and Keesler commanders, though forbidden to speak on the subject, say they are using the changes brought about by privatization to improve the base, which could incidentally protect Keesler's 16,000 civilian and military jobs and $673 million annual payroll. "Everything we're doing increases the value of the base. It's safer," said Lt. Col. William F. Nadolski, deputy commander of the 81st Mission Support Group. The plan will require about 700 additional private-sector houses or apartments for military personnel." --The SunHerald (March 29, 2004)
